This Instant Pot Oatmeal recipe is so creamy, easy, fast and most importantly hands off.

As we know oatmeal is a satisfying, healthy morning meal.

Oats are good source of carbs, fiber, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and contain more protein and fat than most grains. They also help to weight loss, lower blood sugar levels and a reduced risk of heart disease and can lower cholesterol levels.

REASONS TO LOVE INSTANT POT OATMEAL

    1. Convenience of Pressure Cooker versus On the Stove

The Instant Pot is a trendy appliance and making the oatmeal in the Instant Pot rather than over the stove or in the microwave it is so convenient. There is no monitoring involved to be sure it doesn't spillover over on the stove or microwave.

Instead, you simply set it, push a button and walk away until the time is up. And even better, it's perfect for making a big batch to keep in the fridge and warm up anytime. If you forget to check on the oats for 10 minutes, they won't burn, and in fact, the Instant Pot will keep them warm.

Traditionally cooking the steel cut oats takes 40 minutes.

However in the Instant Pot, the cooking time is cut to 10 minutes for rolled oats and to 15 minutes for steel cut oats with the resting time of about 10 minutes. Be sure to allow time for the pressure cooker to come up to heat, about 7-10 minutes more.

     2. You can make a big batch

You can make a big batch of plain oatmeal so that each person ca flavors their oatmeal how they desire. Store the leftover in individual container and keep in the fridge for 2-3 days. Reheat as needed.

    3. You can make it flavored or plain

You can make the oatmeal plain and flavor later or add your favorite fruits, nuts and condiments before cooking.

What is the difference between Steel cut oats, Quick oats and Rolled oats?

Today I'm sharing how to make Instant Pot oatmeal with either rolled oats or steel cut oats.

Rolled Oats are made by rolling the whole grain and lend a chewier texture to oatmeal. They are are excellent for making granola or adding to baking recipes. Also they make a delicious, chewy, hot cereal that provides lasting energy whole morning.

Quick Oats are made by cutting the grain in half, then rolling it.  The flakes are slightly smaller and thinner which allows them to cook more quickly.

Steel cut oats, also called pinhead oats, coarse oatmeal, or Irish oatmeal are groats of whole oats which have been chopped into two or three pinhead-sized pieces. They are minimally processed, and they contain more fiber and density than other kind of oats. Steel cut oats could be considered a "power food" because they are an excellent source of protein, soluble and insoluble fiber and select vitamins and minerals. The benefits of steel cut oats exceed the benefits of rolled oats because of the way they are processed. Steel cut oats have 5 grams of fiber and 7 grams of protein in just a ¼ cup dry serving. Unlike old-fashioned or instant oats, they reheat beautifully, so you can make one big batch that lasts all week.

    Tips:

    1. Total Time: 10 minutes to come to pressure + 10 Minutes Cooking Time + 5 Minutes Release= 22 total minutes. If you use Steel Cut Oats increase the water to 4 cups and push the high pressure button for 20 minutes.
    2. Do not release pressure right away, because your oatmeal to spill out of your heat safe pot in the Instant Pot.
    3. You can use half water and half dairy of any kind (cow milk, coconut milk, almond milk, etc).
    4. Remember when cooking oats in your instant pot, much like rice, you will not need as much liquid as you do when cooking on the stove top because but in the pressure cooker, no liquid is evaporated.
    5. In order to make gluten-free oatmeal use certified gluten-free oats.
